To lure victims, he posed as a successful professional. When the man was arrested, he was carrying business cards, which presented him as a lawyer and a Freemason. Actually the man, according to police, was a common criminal who raked up R$27,000 reals (about $15 thousand USD) in debt on one victim's credit cards.

One victim told police that at the beginning of the relationship, he would brorrow small amounts of money and always pay it back promptly. He professed his love for her and said that he was going to buy her a house and furniture all the while he was passing her checks around town.

In Goias, the police have identified four victims and have complaints from two women who were victims of the scam, one in Goiania and one in Senador Canedo. He was found by one of the victims who arranged for a date with the scammer and, acompanied by an investigator of the 8th District Police, she went to meet him. The investigator arrested him. He will be charged with embezzlement.

"The Internet dating does not always end well. I have seen many occurrences of this kind and the result is always negative for the woman. Social networks offer a broad condition of finding a mate, but it is not the safest," detective Gilberto Iron told G1 Goias. The detective also believes that the man suffers from a personality disorder.

The man told police that his only offense was that “he fell in love too quickly.”
