AA Pilot Fine Upheld for Obscene Gesture

| SAO PAULO – The Court of Justice upheld a 2004 judgment against an American Airlines pilot who made an obscene gesture to a group of Federal Police. The pilot, Dale Robbin Hersh flipped off seven PF agents after landing at Guarulhos International Airport in Sao Paulo.

Lottery Winner's Widow on Trial for Murder

| RIO DE JANEIRO – The trail of the woman known as the “Big Lottery Widow” will resume on Monday. Adriana Ferreira Almeida, 34, is accused involvement in the killing of her common-law husband after he won U.S. $26 million the Mega-Sena lottery in 2005.

Trafficking Arrests Climb in Iguassu Falls

| CURITIBA, Brazil – This year, the Federal Police (PF) recorded an increase in the number of arrests of drug traffickers at the airport in Iguassu Falls, in the western part of the state. According to the agency, most of those arrested have similar characteristics and most are young, small-time drug dealers from the capital.

Trawlers Lynched by Angry Residents

| MANAUS, Amazonas – A 16-year-old boy was beaten to death and another was seriously wounded after being shot on Saturday night, in the Cidade Nova neighborhood of Manaus. According to the Military Police (PM), the two victims and another man were suspected of 18 robberies in the area.

Brazil's First Holocaust Museum Opens

| CURITIBA, Brazil – Brazil's first Holocaust museum was inaugurated today in the capital city of the southern state of Parana. The museum was created by the Jewish community to keep alive the memory of the tragedy perpetrated by the Nazis in Europe before and during World War II. Museums similar to the one in Curitiba already exist in Argentina, Canada, South Africa, Australia, several European countries and in several of the United States.
