Some time later, finding the man passed out in his easy chair, the owner of the vegetable stand called police. According to the report, as told on the TV show Bom Dia Sao Paulo, the suspect entered the garden adjacent to the farmer's roadside stand and went straight to where the produce and eggs are offered for sale. After gathering eggs and produce, he went to the coop and took the farmer's lone rooster.

The farmer suspects that when the boy encountered a nearly full bottle of rum, he decided to sit down and have a drink. Eventually he passed out. “I was sleeping on my couch, when I heard somebody snoring outside,” said the farmer. “When I went to investigate, I found him sleeping in my chair so I called the Civil Guard.

The boy, who was on the lamb and had two arrest warrants outstanding, was arrested and taken to jail.
