Spanish husband target of plot
GOIANIA, Goias – Two women were arrested Tuesday afternoon in Goiania, and police are looking for two others, for conspiring to fake a kidnapping. According to the Special Criminal Investigation Police (DEIC), the women intended to extract a ransom from the husband of the false kidnap victim, a Spaniard with whom she lived for a year in Brazil.

The police say that the two women were to split the 700,000 euro (about U.S.$972,000) ransom. The woman was missing and purportedly a hostage being held by a criminal gang for two days, before reappearing alongside a highway outside of the city.
According to the police narrative, when the false victim found out that the police were investigating her disappearance she became paranoid and decided to call family to say that she had been released by the kidnappers and was left by the side of highway BR-153. Police said that the two women, who seem to be involved in the drug trade, confessed to the crime.
“The co-conspirator opened her testimony by saying that she and the fake victim planned the crime together from the beginning, along with her husband and another boy who both remain at large,” said the chief, Douglas Pedroza.
Police are now looking for the others involved in the fake kidnapping. There is a suspicion that one of them is serving a sentence in state prison. The Superintendent of Prisons is taking action to discover the identity of the prisoner.
