Mother and baby doing fine after tree breaks fall
FLORIANOPOLIS, Santa Catarina – A pregnant woman slipped and fell from the tenth floor of a highrise apartment building in the capital at about 5:30 pm Thursday night. First reports indicate that Daiane Beatriz Maciel, was cleaning windows of an apartment in a highrise building on Esteves Junior Street when she slipped and fell ten floors.
The woman, who was two months pregnant, hit a tree on the way down and suffered only scratches and bruises. Painter Jorge Amorim was working on the ground floor of the building, just below the window from which Daiane plummeted. “Judging by the speed of the falling debris, I thought it was just a branch or something else, not a person,” he said. “She was as surprised as anybody that she wasn't injured worse, or dead,” he continued.
Daiane was taken by the Office of Mobile Emergency Care (SEMC) to Governor Celso Ramos Hospital. As of 8:20 pm, she was still being evaluated in the emergency ward of the hospital, but officials said that she was conscious and appeared to have suffered only minor injuries.
Last week 25-year-old Muniki Dias Goulart of Goiania was released from hospital after surviving a leap from the 12th floor of the building where she lived.
