| SALVADOR, Brazil – A schoolteacher in Ubaitaba in southern Bahia, 370 km from the capital Salvador, has been arrested for failing to pay child support for her two daughters who are in the custody of her ex-husband, reported O Globo online.
Lenis Borges da Silva, 41, was arrested Monday afternoon, on her way home from work, after her husband appeared in court in July. The schoolteacher lost custody of their daughters seven years ago. Today, the girls are teenagers, 16 and 18 years old. Both of them work and one no longer lives with her father.
The woman's child support payment is $2,600 U.S. per month. According to the ex-husband she owes him $12,556 for missed payments. The arrest warrant was issued on July 4th by Judge Andreia Gomes Fernandes.
The ex-husband of Lenis, Tiburcio Ademilton dos Santos, 40, a vendor of abará (a typical Bahian dish) in Ubaitaba, said he will not withdraw the complaint against his ex-wife.
