Five Arrested After Priest Solves Church Burglery
RECIFE, Brazil – Five people were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the robbery of a church in the Maranguape II Paulista neighborhood of Metropolitan Recife, reported O Globo online.
The priest of the church made his own investigation into the theft and located objects that had been stolen. Among those detained on Thursday were three men and two women who would receive the stolen goods and resell them according to information from the Civil Police.
Sound equipment, chairs and tables belonging to the church were found in bars around the Paulista neighborhood. When the priest found a few chairs from his church, he called the police.
The three men were being held in liu of U.S. $2,000 bail. The women signed a confession implicating the men and were released.
Recife is the fourth largest metropolitan area in Brazil and, with a population of 4.2 million, the largest in the country's north-eastern region. The city is the capital of the state of Pernambuco. Recife is also a major port city, located where the Beberibe River meets the Capibaribe River to flow into the Atlantic Ocean.
