SÃO PAULO, Brazil – A criminal gang entered a São Paulo bank through the front doors over the weekend and looted 170 safe deposit boxes. The bank branch is located on one of the busiest streets in the city, the bustling Avenida Paulista, repored the Jornal do Globo.
The robbery took place over a 10 hours spanning last Saturday and Sunday. On Monday, three customers of the Banco Itaú branch that was robbed filed a complaint with police. Neither the bank nor the clients wanted to detail what was stolen, but the information that the police have indicates that the damage was in the “millions.”
During the robbery, two robbers smashed their way through the front doors to the facility and overpowered the guards. Ten other bandits then entered behind. The alarm was turned off and the panic button disabled by the robbers who went to the basement where they used diamond-bit drills and high explosives to brake into the safe-deposit boxes.
