| BRASILIA – A sergeant of the Federal District Military Police (PMDF) was hit by a car and killed this morning in Vicente Pires, 17 km (10 miles) from the capital. Police said the officer, 32, who was traveling in a van with a friend when they stopped the vehicle on the roadside to urinate, was struck by a car and killed.
According to a local police spokesman, speaking to G1 DF, the vehicle that caused the accident was speeding and after the collision overturned. The driver and a passenger, who fled the scene of the accident without providing assistance, have not been located.
The sergeant was taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The friend of the victim, who was in the van, was not hurt, but was also taken to hospital because he was in shock from witnessing the incident which took his friend's life.
