“This palace has so much history to Rio and Brazil. It has seen many changes in the country. Today we have a modern building and, keeping with tradition, we have meticulously maintained its tradition with all that was restored,” said Regis Fichtner, Secretary of the Civil House.

The Guanabara Palace, opened in 1853, has gone through five restorations since then. According to Fichtner, this was the most comprehensive.

“Of all of the restorations, this was the most all-encompassing, touching every facet of the structure. For example, it now has central air conditioning in all rooms and an elevator has been added for people with limited mobility,” said Fichtner.
