A neighbor of the attacker told the news outlet Hoje em Dia that the lawyer left the building where she lives and started insulting the victim, who was sleeping in the vicinity of her residence for about two weeks. “He never caused any trouble here. This woman came completely unhinged, cursing profanity and when the homeless man stood up, humiliated, she beat him with the gun butt. That's when I decided to call police,” the neighbor told Hoje.

The witness, who prefers to remain anonymous, said that the man walks with great difficulty due to having suffered a stroke which left his left side paralyzed. “In addition to swearing, she made threats, saying she would set fire to the begger if he continued to sleep next to the building,” said the witness.

Marilia, a lawyer, told police last night that the homeless man settled near her home and that he was “messing with” her. Last night, the two argued and she went into her home and came back out with a .22 caliber weapon. She ended up hitting the man, in self defense, several times in the head with the butt of the gun.

Wounded, the homeless man had to be rescued by the paramedics, as did Marilia who was suffering from an attack of nerves. Both were admitted to the hospital and as of Sunday night neither party had filed a complaint with the police. Nonetheless, the Civil Police intend to investigate the incident on Monday.
