| SAO PAULO – The Federal Police (PF) seized 648 kilos of marijuana and made five arrests early Monday morning in Osasco, Sao Paulo. According to the PF, the drugs were discovered in a cargo truck.
The police arrived at the location where the drugs were to be delivered after receiving a tip that a large shipment was to be received by a person close to the Congonhas airport in the southern part of the capital city. According to the PF, the team intercepted the truck on a street near Castelo Branco highway, as the contraband was being unloaded.
The federal narcotics agents seized the truck, two cars and all the drugs. They arrested five suspects, who they caught red-handed, and who, if convicted of drug trafficking, face up to 15 years imprisonment.
Osasco is a city in the state of Sao Paulo and part of the capital's greater metropolitan area. It has a population of approximately three quarters of a million people (2008) within its borders and is one of the most densely populated cities in the world with over 10,000 inhabitants per square km.
