SÃO PAULO, Brazil – A man on a one-day crime spree was arrested after robbing two stores and a private home where a nine-year-old boy was home alone. Ricardo Braga Sabino, 23, was arrested Thursday at the home of the boy in the Paulicéia nieghborhood of São Paulo, reported O Globo.
The man had a machete and a pipe that he used to simulate a weapon. Among the items stolen from the house was the boy's piggy bank which was full of coins. The boy, who was in shock, had to be taken to hospital.
According to police, Braga robbed a bar on Benjamin Constant Street the same morning. Police had responded to an emergency call from the bar but could not locate the suspect. That afternoon the suspect is accused of robbing a store in Paulicéia where five mobile phones and cash were taken. A short time later, the man is accused of entering the house where the boy was home alone and taking the piggy bank.
Braga was located by police near 31st Ave where he was arrested and taken to the 3rd Police Precinct Station. All of the stolen goods were recovered and returned to their owners. The victims were able to identify the suspect at the station.
Braga has an extensive criminal record. He has been arrested 14 times for theft and burglery. After being identified, police took him to the jail in Piracicaba where he was booked.
The boy has been released from hospital.
