Beer Cans that Transform to Cups Debut

SAO PAULO – A revolutionary new beer container is set to debut on store shelves throughout São Paulo on Saturday. AmBev Brazil's new easy-to-open beer can that transforms into a drinking cup when the easy-open top is removed will initially be used only for the top selling Brahma beer brand, according to a press release.

AmBev conducted focus groups with more than 2,500 consumers, many of whom expressed an interest in a way to drink beer from a cup with the convenience of a can. In response to the interest expressed by the participants, they decided to create a can called Brahma Big Cup which will be available in 12 fl oz size in most São Paulo supermarkets beginning tomorrow.

The new Brahma Big Cup container is being touted as Eco-friendly since it will help reduce waste at sporting events, parks and beaches by reducing demand for plastic cups and, of course, it is still just as recyclable as a regular can.

A marketing campaign was also created to introduce the new container. Africa agency has created a campaign titled “Wedding of the Century” inspired by the recent William and Catherine royal wedding in Great Britain. The idea being the wedding of beer (royal) and a cup (commoner).

According to wikipedia, Brazilians consume an average of 47.6 liters of beer per year per person, putting them at the 36th place on the list of most beer loving people. In 1st place, the Czech Republic consumes the most at 158.6 liters. The U.S. is 13th on the list consuming 81.6 liters.
