Operação Garimpo resulted in the arrest of eight members of a specialized gang
BELO HORIZONTE, Minas Gerais – The Civil Police have arrested eight members of a specialized organized crime gang that specialized in stealing jewelery operating out of the Barreiro area of the capitol city of Minas Gerais state, reported terra.com.br on Monday.

The four month long investigation, code named Operação Garimpo, which culminated last Thursday, began after a residential burglary at a residence in the Industrías neighborhood where gold pieces, watches, jewelery and electronics were taken.
During the execution of the search warrants, police seized jewelry, brand-name watches, fake documents, a motorcycle, an automobile, a firearm, drugs, precision scales and electronic equipment. Of the eight arrested, six had criminal records and at least one was female. The convictions included: drug trafficking, illegal possession of a weapon, robbery, theft, receiving stolen goods, conspiracy, reckless driving, use of false documents and perjury.
The suspects were booked into various jails around metropolitan Belo Horizonte and are awaiting court dates.
