Serving 100 Years He Dies Digging Out

Tunnel Started Under His Prison Cell Toilet

SAO PAULO – An inmate serving a 100 year sentance for multiple robberies was found dead on Sunday in a unfinished tunel under his cell at the state prison in Avaré, reported the temmais.com website.

The inmate, Sandro Alves Carvalho, 34, was born in the town of Quinta do Sol, Paraná. According to police, he had removed the toilet in his cell to coverup the entrance to his tunnel which was about two meters deap. Police assume that he died while digging because his body was found standing up in the hole covered by the toilet.

The prisoner, who suffered from epilepsy, was taking prescription medication. A forensic institute will perform an autopsy whose results will be made available on Tuesday.

According to wikipedia, Avaré is a city in the State of São Paulo, Brazil located about 270 km from the capital city. Ironically for the deceased prisoner, the city was built around the chapel of Our Lady of Good Death (“Nosso Senhora da Boa Morte”).
