| BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil – On Friday night, Carnaval drew crowds to the streets of several cities in Minas Gerais state. For example, in the colonial city of São Laurenço, the traditional Pajama Block Party drew about 20 thousand – mostly young clad only in sleepwear – into the streets to celebrate, dancing the night way.
When the Pajama Block Party was created 25 years ago, it was just 20 friends having fun. Today, organizers said, thousands of people attended the opening of the São Laurenço Carnaval. To get the crowds fired-up, electric trios and two sound trucks shook the city streets.
The gigantic pajama party attracts residents and tourists from various parts of Brazil. The are people of all ages who follow the bandwagon, but instead of traditional costumes, they wear pajamas.
