According to police, the suspect was in a vehicle loaded with 64.2 kilos (137 lbs) of marijuana and 94 rounds of 556 caliber ammunition used in M16 military assault rifles.

A spokesman for the 4th Battalion of the Military Police (PM) said that officers on the Brazilian side of the border saw the car approaching the international boundary line at a high rate of speed being chased by a truck characteristic of the National Police of the neighboring country. Realizing the presence of the PM, and his vehicle having a flat tire, the suspect abandoned the car and tried to flee back to Paraguay.

Brazilian police caught the man right on the border with support from Paraguayan agents. Police took the man, his vehicle and the seized contraband to the Federal Police Department for processing. The man faces 5 to 15 years imprisonment if convicted of trafficking.
