| FORTALEZA, Brazil - The Federal Police of Ceará arrested a man on Monday afternoon with 15.5 kilos (about 34 lbs) of pure cocaine at the Pinto Martins International Airport in Fortaleza. According to the Federal Police, the suitcases had strong smell of camphor, often used to disguise the smell of drugs in order to evade detection by drug-sniffing police dogs.
According to the press release, the man, a resident of Lábrea, Amazonas, carried the drug in a suitcase, hidden between duvets. The suspect was indicted for interstate trafficking of drugs, which falls under the Oversight of the Federal Police in Ceará.
According to the Federal Police, this November 41.5 kilos (about 91 lbs) of cocaine were seized in the Pinto Martins International Airport. In 2011, seizures are already more than 700 kilos (1,543 lbs) of drugs seized, the second most of any airport in drug seizures this year, according to the Superintendency of Federal Police, behind only Guarulhos International Airport, in São Paulo.
