| CAMPO GRANDE, Brazil – The Federal Police (PF) seized 13.7 metric tons of marijuana being transported in two trucks, Saturday night, on a highway in Central-West Brazil. The vehicles were stopped at a roadblock while driving along the MS-156 highway near the town of Caarapo, 273 km (170 miles) from Campo Grande, according to G1 MS.

According to police, the narcotic was concealed beneath a load of wooden benches. PF Agents determined that the drugs were bound for the states of Sao Paulo and Minas Gerais. The discovery was made during a routine search at a highway checkpoint operated by federal police as part of Operation Agata III. The drivers, men ages 54 and 42, were arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking.
The suspects told police that they picked up the shipment of pot in the city of Coronel Sapucaia, near the Paraguayan border, 380 km (236 miles) from the state capital, Campo Grande. They were to be paid R$2,500 reals ($1,350 USD) each for delivering the drugs. The suspects were booked, and held without bail, for drug trafficking and face, if convicted, 5 to 15 years imprisonment.
