| BOSTON, Mass – A judge arraigned Brazilian immigrant Marcelo Almeida for murder at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth on Thursday. Prosecutors charged the 41-year-old undocumented immigrant, who entered the U.S. on a stolen visa and never left, with killing his 24-year-old Brazilian girlfriend Patricia Frois.
Almeida says he killed Frois “because of love,” said Assistant District Attorney Sharon Donatelle. The defendant reportedly made that statement inside the Fox Run Apartment he shared with the victim shortly after stabbing her to death.
Almeida's attorney entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf, during the arraignment in the hospital room, where doctors are treating him for injuries he received during the altercation. He was aware during the hearing but reportedly showed no emotion.
