66 cameras around the city to be replaced

The Urban Traffic and Transportation Agency (CTTU), which is responsible for monitoring roadways in the capital, expects the new equipment to facilitate its mission of identifying hazards such as potholes, flooding and drivers violating traffic laws.

The president of CTTU, Maria de Pompeia, told the Globo TV Network about the advantages of purchasing the new equipment. “We can advise the public of flooded roads. We can see in more detail if there is a pothole in the road and we can also see in more detail the license plates of cars transiting the roads and doing something stupid,” she said.

Previously, the cameras were fixed. The new equipment can rotate 360 degrees and zoom in providing close up images. Of the 66 cameras that are currently scattered in the streets of Recife, thirty will be replaced by the start of Carnaval.

One can see the new equipment at these locations: Avenida Agamenon Magalhães, Avenida Boa Viagem, Avenida Herculano Bandeira, Avenida Sul, Largo do Cabanga, Avenida Arquiteto Luiz Nunes (intercection with Avenida Mascarenhas de Moraes, in Imbiribeira)
