| GOIANIA, Brazil – On Thursday, the Fire Department released pictures of a cougar cub rescued on a farm 40 km (25 miles) outside the town of Planaltina, on Tuesday. Farm workers found the animal hidden behind bags of wheat in a warehouse located on the property.

According to rescuers, the cub was scared and was taken to the Zoological Foundation in nearby Brasilia. At the foundation, veterinarians reported that the animal was dehydrated and hungry. The fire department believes that the cub was abandoned by its mother. He will be cared for by the foundation until he is capable of caring for himself in the wild.

On Monday, also in the state of Goias, children in the city of Itaberai, 92 km from Goiania, found an alligator which weighed about 25 kg (55 lbs), and was about 1 meter (3.4 feet) in length, while playing near an elementary school. Images of the animal were released by the Fire Department.

According to rescuers, none of the children was injured and the alligator was captured and released on the banks of the Uruguay River, which divides the municipalities of Goias and Itaberai.
