According the chief police investigator, Sidney Maia, the suspect was identified from images caught on the station's CCTV security camera, which clearly showed the face of the suspect after he entered the studio. The investigator also said that they have some information about him and are ready to make an arrest, but since he doesn't appear to have a permanent residence, they are having difficulty locating him.

The announcer, one of the founders of the community radio station, said that he had never lived a moment as tense as when the suspect assaulted him Wednesday night. “I though at the time I was going to die,” the announcer told Claudia Boff of Diario de Canoas.

“I was looking at the schedule on the computer in the studio when I noticed a figure walking with a bag in hand. I was behind him and he told me he wanted to talk to members of a band. When I figured out that it was a robbery, I got in front of him. Then he pulled a gun, told me to turn around and he hit me on the head. He took a monitor, speakers, and some other equipment, ran out the side of the studio and fled into the scrub,” the announcer and radio station founder told the journalist, Boff.

In November, a 68-year-old radio announcer in the state of Sao Paulo died on-air of an apparent heart attack.
