| VITORIA, Brazil – The health status of Miss Brazil 2010 Debora Lyra is stable after undergoing successful surgery for cervical spinal fusion. The procedure took place at Estadual São Lucas Hospital in Vitoria, and lasted about four hours on Wednesday afternoon.
According to a spokesman for the health service, Debora was transferred to the ICU at the Center for Integrated Health Care (CIAS) after the surgery, late on Wednesday.
Miss Brazil's father, Luis Fernando Lyra, said he was very happy after the surgery and confirmed that his daughter is conscious. She underwent another surgical procedure in the morning, during which they removed her spleen.
According to family friends, Debora fractured a vertebra and suffered a ruptured spleen in an accident late Wednesday in the town of Guarapari, south along the BR-101 from the state capital, Vitoria. Debora's boyfriend broke his nose and a femur. The boyfriend was also treated at São Lucas Hospital. In all, six people were injured and one woman, 55, lost her life.
After completing her reign as Miss Brazil, Debora continued to work as a model and entered business school. According to Jose Alonso, Debora was in South Korea earlier this month, where she participated in the Miss Universe contest, coming in fourth place.
In July this year, Debora was held up at gunpoint as she approached the entrance of her gated condo in Sao Paulo.
