Man arrested Sunday for Saturday night shooting death in Niteroi
RIO DE JANEIRO – Police on Sunday night arrested a 35-year-old man suspected of killing a lawyer in his ex-wife's house on Rua Duarte Galvao, in the Fonseca neighborhood of Niteroi. The man, who was not happy with his recent divorce, is accused of shooting to death his ex-wife's lover on Saturday night.
According to police, the suspect invaded his wife's home several times in the past. Each time, he argued with her, expressing his unhappiness at their divorce. On Saturday night, he invaded her home again, this time surprising her with her lawyer-lover. He became enraged and shot the lawyer in the shoulder.
The suspect told police during his interrogation that when he realized that the lawyer was not moving, he decided to finish him off with a shot to the chest. The man died shortly after.
The ex-wife identified the suspect after he was arrested on Sunday and in her testimony, she reaffirmed that it was him who shot her boyfriend to death the night before. The suspect was booked on murder charges.
Niteroi, a city of 500,000, sits directly across Guanabara Bay from the City of Rio de Janeiro.
