Police acted on an anonymous tip in Recreio
RIO DE JANEIRO – Acting on an anonymous tip, officers of the 31st Battalion Military Police (PM), raided an apartment in the upscale seaside town of Recreio, in the West Zone of Rio, Wednesday night. There, police seized 220 kilos of pot and arrested three young people who were found in the apartment, including the tenant.
The pressed bricks of marijuana were stored in four suitcases. The resident of the apartment tried to get rid of the drugs by throwing them out an open window in the back of the apartment, according to police.
The agents went to the address after receiving an anonymous tip by telephone. Police said the man living in the apartment admitted to receiving the drug on Wednesday and that it was to be delivered to the Vidigal slum in Rio's South Zone the next today, Thursday.
In addition to the illicit drugs, police confiscated a notebook and calendar with an accounting scheme. Listed in the notebook are several names that police want to investigate to discover what connections they have to the accused. Police also confiscated balance-beam scale.
Two of the three arrested told police that they are just drug users and claimed not to know about the existence of such a large amount of drugs in the apartment. Those two were later released.
