Officials expect 170,000 more visitors
BLUMENAU, Santa Catarina – The organizers of the 28th Annual Blumenau Oktoberfest expect to receive over 170,000 more visitors by Sunday, when the 11-day festival ends, bringing this year's attendance to 550,000.
So far, nearly 380,000 revelers from various parts of Brazil and other countries have passed through German Village Park to enjoy the culinary presentations, parades, parties and most of all, the beer. As of yesterday, festival attendees had quaffed 391,000 liters of beer.
“However, if the public surprises us the last Saturday of Oktoberfest, we can achieve the milestone of 600,000 people, which was our original projection,” said Norbert Mette, the president of German Village Park. Even under constant drizzle, the loyal revelers followed every detail of the parade down the main street on Saturday. The organization estimates that 20,000 people of all ages watched the parade of folk groups.
