Three men each had a kilo of cocaine in digestive tract
TABATINGA, Amazonas – Federal Police (PF) announced the arrest of three Colombians, suspected of drug trafficking, on Saturday afternoon in the municipalities of Tabatinga and Benjamin Constant, in the high Solimoes, in the interior of the Brazilian state of Amazonas.
According to the PF, each swallowed 100 capsules of cocaine, each containing 10 grams of the drug for a total of 1 kilo in the digestive tract of each of the three men. Police say the men admitted during interrogation that the drugs were destined for the state capital, Manaus. The men received R$1,700 (about U.S. $1,000) to carry the drugs inside their bodies.
The men were taken to the Garrison Hospital of Tabatinga so doctors could document the smuggling attempt with tomographic images. The men passed all of the drug capsules twenty-two hours after arriving at the hospital. They were then taken to the local jail where police held them for international drug trafficking. The three men are subject to penalties of five to fifteen years imprisonment.
