| BRASILIA – An official of the Iranian Embassy in Brasilia was shot at around 10:45 pm last night in the capital. The Iranian, identified by police as a driver for the Iranian diplomatic mission, was approached by three assailants who tried to take the car he was driving. The driver didn't speak Portuguese, resisted and was shot.

GOIANIA, Brazil – Early Friday morning, security cameras recorded three men looting a clothing store in downtown Rio Verde. Scared off by an alarm, they spent only 18 seconds inside the store but still managed to run off with about 40 pair of pants and 50 shirts.

| RIO DE JANEIRO – This afternoon, American Brent Winder Girault, 29, was shot in the knee during an attempted robbery in Botafogo, in Rio's South Zone. According to police, two armed men on a motorcycle approached the victim, who has lived in Rio for five years, as he got off a bus at the corner of Sao Clemente and Nelson Mandela streets. Police believe the robbers followed the man from a bank where he had withdrawn money.

| BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil – Bandits blasted open an ATM early Saturday morning in the town of Conselheiro Lafaiete, destroying the machine but getting no cash. One shop next door was completely destroyed and others in the shopping mall where the machine was located were badly damaged, according to G1 Minas Gerais.

RECIFE, Pernambuco – About 60 Brazilian and foreign tourists were robbed Wednesday evening during a catamaran outing in Tamandare, along the south coast of Pernambuco, in north-eastern Brazil. According to police, four men in a boat--stolen just before the assault--motored up to the larger tourist vessel and announced the robbery.
