| RIO DE JANEIRO – A Brazilian teenager reportedly received an iPhone 4 manufactured in Brazil. The teen, who bought the device earlier this month on Apple's Brazilian website, received the cell phone about 10 days ago. The box indicates (in Portuguese) that the phone is 'Made in Brazil' and has the information of the new Foxconn factory in Jundai, Sao Paulo state.
The manufacturer would not confirm that is has already begun production of the smartphone in Brazil and referred inquiries to Apple. A reporter for G1 sought information from Apple, which said that it had no comment.
Gabriell Huver, 17, who lives in Espirito Santo state, published on twitter.com an image of the iPhone box which backs up his claim. The box label clearly states that the product is 'Fabricado no Brasil' (Made in Brazil), and has the address of the new Foxconn factory in Jundai, SP, located at the 66 km mark on Highway Anhanguera.
”I bought the unit on February 3rd and received it on February 17th,” he told G1. “I didn't know that it had been manufactured in Brazil.” He only realized it when he saw the information on the box.
At the Apple store in Brazil, the iPhone 4 8GB sells for R$1,800 reals (about $1,055 USD). It is unlocked and can use chips from any of the national GSM operators, including pre-paid.
