| PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil – Federal Highway Police in southern Brazil seized 150 kg (330 lbs) of cocaine hidden in the false bed of a truck on Tuesday. The seizure occurred at km 51 on the BR-386 in Serberi, in northern Rio Grande do Sul state at about 11:20 am this morning.
Police found the 150 bricks of the drug hidden in the false-bottomed bed of a truck being driven by a 39 year old man, who was arrested and taken to the PRF regional office in Santo Angelo.
According to the PRF, the cocaine came from Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul state. The man admitted that he was to take the load to the Caxias do Sul, where he was to drop the truck at a gas station. According to police, he was to receive R$15,000 reals (about $8,825 USD) for making the delivery.
Caxias do Sul is situated in the state's mountainous Serra Gaúcha region and is heavily populated by Italian immigrants. It is the second largest city in the state and has a population of about a half million. Nowadays, the city is an important due to its industrious citizens and is home to vast vineyards, wineries, huge industrial parks and a rich and dynamic market, which is known internationally.
