| SAO PAULO – The Federal Police (PF) held on Wednesday, at the Guarulhos International Airport, a 21-year-old Thai massage therapist trying to carry 5 kilos of cocaine to Qatar. According to the PF, the drug was hidden in five cans of tuna found inside her suitcase.
Federal police officers noticed organic substances inside the woman's bag as it passed through an X-ray machine at the airport and they asked her to open the suitcase so they could check. Inside the bag were found five cans of tuna. When officers opened the cans, they discovered 4.997 kilos of pure cocaine.
The woman was arrested and taken to the woman’s prison in Sao Paulo. She will answer to the charges of international drug trafficking and faces 5 to 15 years imprisonment.
It is not unusual for foreigners, often young adults, to be arrested at the airport with cocaine. On September 14th, a 20-year-old Irishman was arrested with nearly a kilo of cocaine in balloons passing through his digestive system. The next day, a Nigerian was arrested with 4.9 kilos of cocaine hidden in candy was arrested as he tried to board a flight to Qatar.
Even senior citizens are not above smuggling drugs, on September 28th, a couple in their 70s was arrested trying to board a flight for Europe.
