Brazil News

| RIO DE JANEIRO – Federal Police (PF) at Tom Jobim International Airport in Rio on Thursday afternoon arrested Yabadi Minich, 50, an Angolan national, accused of international drug trafficking. She tried to board a flight to Luanda, Angola, with 51 hair brushes packed with cocaine.

Minich was already aboard the airliner when the PF found the drugs inside her checked luggage. She was taken off the flight and arrested. The action was coordinated by Ricardo Bechara, Federal Police chief at the airport.

The drugs were hidden inside small cylinderical hairbrushes. In an effort to fool the drug sniffing dogs used by the authorities, the cylindrical hairbrushes were covered with a type of hair cream. As the woman's suitcase passed through an X-ray machine, police spotted organic material, which upon closer inspection turned out to be cocaine, inside the brushes.

In late September, a couple in their 70s were arrested trying to board a flight to Europe at the airport with cocaine hidden in a false bottomed suitcase. The punishment for international drug trafficking in Brazil is 5 to 15 years imprisonment.
