Suspect Admits Breaking into Her Home but Denies Killing Her

PONTA GROSSA, Brazil – The Civil Police on Monday afternoon took into custody a man accused of murdering a 21-year-old model found dead after leaving a bar. The victim's mother found the body of Agna Rocha at around 8 am in the house where the two lived.

Police questioned the last people to talk with Rocha, including Jean Carlos Oliveira Pinto, 23, who gave conflicting accounts. Under interrogation, he eventually confessed to having broken a door to the woman's house and entering, but he insisted that he did not kill her.

According to the police chief, Leonardo Carneiro, Agna, a friend and Pinto spent Sunday night in a bar where the victim had been drinking. After leaving the model and her friend at their own homes, Pinto returned to Agna's residence.

During his interrogation, the suspect claimed that Agna wanted to change her clothes, so they agreed that he would take her friend home and then return. Pinto said that when he returned he knocked on the woman's door. When nobody answered, he decided enter forcibly. He broke down the door and entered. During the interrogation, police noticed that the suspect had a cut on his hand.

The suspect went on to say that Agna appeared right after he entered. She was drunk and they began kissing. She lost consciousness and fell, hitting her head on the floor. Pinto was frightened when he couldn't revive her. He panicked and decided to make it look like she was assaulted during a robbery. He made a mess, took her cell phone and fled.

Police say that the model had bruises on her face and between her legs. Police arrested Pinto who is under investigation for rape and murder. They booked him into the Hildibrando de Souza jail. Police are awaiting reports from the Crime Lab. They expect the reports to show if there was sexual intercourse and what the cause of death was.
