Dilma and Barack to Meet at UN

| BRASILIA - The president of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff and the American president, Barack Obama, will meet next Tuesday at the United Nations General Assembly. President Rousseff's spokesman, Rodrigo Baena, said that the president will arrive in New York on Sunday and Monday will attend a meeting on noncommunicable diseases and a symposium on the role of women in politics, both organized by the UN.

Baena said that the meeting with Obama will be on Tuesday and, after the meeting, both will attend the opening of the Society for Open Government, an initiative promoted by Brazil and the United States. The new UN body, intends to promote exemplary practices in public administration and will be overseen by a sterling committee, which also includes the Philippines, Mexico, South Africa, Norway, Indonesia and the United Kingdom.

Later on Tuesday, the president will meet with Mexican President Felipe Calderon and in the evening attend a dinner organized by the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, which will honor her with an award for public service. On Wednesday, the president will have a private meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon before opening debate in the General Assembly.
