Scanned Price Discrepancies Also a Problem
SAO PAULO, Brazil – The director of a Walmart store, located in Vila Leopoldina in the Western Zone of the city of Sao Paulo, was arrested by Civilian Police (PC) late on Friday.
According to police, some goods were sold at the store after their expiration date. The store is also accused of charging a higher price at the checkout stand than the price appearing on the shelf.
Police say they found spoiled roast beef and sausage two days ago. They also allege that the store charged them $13 for a piece of cutlery with a shelf price of $10.
The director was released after posting bail equivalent to U.S. $54,000. He is charged with “crimes against the consumer.” In a statement, Walmart said that “only four of the 60,000 items in the store were expired between the 14th and 16th of September.
