U.S. Law allows export of medical waste says Pitts

RECIFE, Pernambuco – U.S. law allows the exportation of used material—including material used in hospitals, according to the United States Consul, Usha Pitts, on Thursday afternoon speaking at the consulate in the Northeastern Brazilian city of Recife. The consul met with the FBI attache, Richard Cavalieri, at the consulate to discuss the seizure of medical waste shipped from Charleston, SC to the Port of Suape in Pernambuco.

Brazil to Speed Up Issuing Tourist Visas

North Americans to Benefit Most from Changes

BRASILIA – The Minister of Tourism, Gaston Vieira said on Friday that the federal government is studying ways to speed up the granting of visas to foreign tourists. According to Vieira, the changes will primarily benefit Americans, Canadians and Mexicans.

Dilma and Barack to Meet at UN

| BRASILIA - The president of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff and the American president, Barack Obama, will meet next Tuesday at the United Nations General Assembly. President Rousseff's spokesman, Rodrigo Baena, said that the president will arrive in New York on Sunday and Monday will attend a meeting on noncommunicable diseases and a symposium on the role of women in politics, both organized by the UN.
