| RIO DE JANEIRO – Swiss aviator Yves Rossy, known as Jetman, flew around Rio de Janeiro today, 2 May 2012. He jumped from a helicopter high above the Christ the Redeemer statue on Corcovado, activated his equipment, and used his body to fly around the statue and eventually land on Copacabana Beach in the city's South Zone.

| RIO DE JANEIRO – In celebration of Earth Hour 2012, several monuments went dark in Rio on Saturday night, including the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue atop Corcovado mountain.

| RIO DE JANEIRO – Workers on Monday hauled a 450 kg (992 lb) piano to the 710-meter (2,329 ft) peak of Corcovado mountain and placed it at the foot of the 38-meter (125 ft) tall statue of Jesus, known as Christ the Redeemer. The unprecedented move was to accommodate a late afternoon concert by pianist Alvaro Siviero, at one of the most famous tourist spots in the world.

| RIO DE JANEIRO – The iconic statue of Christ the Redeemer, high above the city with its outstretched arms seemingly embracing the the whole of humanity, turns 80 today. Standing 130 feet tall and weighing 700 tons, the art deco statue, made of reinforced concrete and soapstone, debuted on October 12th, 1931.
