| CAMPO GRANDE, Brazil – Federal Highway Police (PRF) on Wednesday arrested a 47-year-old Bolivian woman carrying 21 beets which were hollowed out and stuffed with pure cocaine. The arrest was made at a highway checkpoint at the 600 km marker on the BR-262 in Mato Grosso do Sul.
The woman was a passenger on an inter-city bus line traveling from Corumba to Campo Grande. She claimed to have carried the drug in exchange for passage to visit her husband, who works in the southern part of the state capital, were the drugs were to be delivered.
According to the PRF, the beets contained a total of 6.5 kilos of pure Bolivian cocaine. The arrest was referred to the Federal Police in Campo Grande. The woman faces 5 to 15 years imprisonment if convicted.
