The ranking of the 20 most powerful mothers, which took into account the decision-making power and influence of each one, was based on the annual list of 100 most powerful women.

| RIO DE JANEIRO - The Brazilian Navy has successfully carried out a firing trial of an Exocet MM40 missile, equipped with a motor developed, produced and certified by Avibras in partnership with MBDA. This is the first time that the Brazilian Navy has carried out such a test which represents the country’s autonomy in obtaining anti-ship missile motors which, in the future, could also be used on other kinds of missile, both national and foreign. The test was carried out in the open ocean from the Brazilian Navy corvette Barroso.

| SAO PAULO – On Monday, police in São Paulo arrested a 20-year-old, nine-months pregnant woman for failure to pay child support to her ex-husband. Jailers released her on Tuesday after her family settled the $300 debt with the father of her 3-year-old daughter, who has custody of the child, reported Brazilian online media.

| BRASILIA – The international environmental group Greenpeace used green lasers to implore the Brazilian president to veto the new Brazil Forest Code. The group wrote 'Greenpeace' and 'New Forest Code – Veto Dilma,' in green laser light on the towers of the congress building, reported online media.

| RIO DE JANEIRO - The Brazilian Sports Minister, Aldo Rebelo, has issued a statement to say that preparations for the 2014 football World Cup, which will be hosted by Brazil, are now well under way. This will come as a relief to some, who feared that the Maracanã stadium would not be finished in time for the Confederations Cup, which takes place just a year beforehand, and of often considered to be something of a rehearsal for the big event.
