| HAVANA – Yoani Sanchez was denied permission by the Cuban Government to visit Brazil for the premier of a film in which she is featured. At about 1:45 pm EST, she tweeted “It was no surprise. It was the 19th time I have been denied permission to come and go from my own country.”

A few minutes later, she tweeted “Cuba's new trip refusal...And Article 13 of the declaration of human rights, where is it?”
Article 13 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: (1) Everyone has the right to freedom of movement and residence within the borders of each state. (2) Everyone has the right to leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country.”
Yoani was inspired by photos of Dilma Rousseff, the president of Brazil, appearing before the Military Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro, after having been tortured and imprisoned for several years. Thinking she might find an ally in Dilma, Yoani appealed to the Brazilian President to intercede in her behalf with the Cuban dictator.
In the end, it wasn't to be. Dilma said that she would not make human rights “a weapon” of diplomacy. On Thursday, Yoani tweeted that the word on the Cuban street is that “Dilma came to Cuba with her wallet open and eyes closed”
