| MARSHFIELD, USA – First responders found the body of Brazilian Patricia Frois, 24, on Monday in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. Police say that someone stabbed her to death.
According to Brazilian media reports, on Saturday, Patricia left the apartment where she lived with her boyfriend, another Brazilian Marcello Almeida, 41, with whom she had a relationship described by relatives and friends as unstable and violent.
Police say that Almeida was an illegal immigrant from Brazil who police arrested three months ago, prior to the brutal murder, for driving without a license and other offenses after he almost hit a police patrol car head-on. The court convicted him of the charges; he paid a fine and walked free.
During the struggle, during which police allege Almeida stabbed his girlfriend to death, he received injuries. After police arrested Almeida, they took him to hospital where he remains until he is well enough to be booked into jail.
Afer an argument but before the fight that allegedly took her life, a neighbor downstairs gave Patricia refuge while she decided what to do.
Patricia was last seen returning home to the boyfriend to get some clothes. Police identified Almeida as the prime-suspect in the murder right away and arrested him.
The case has stirred controversy in the city, which does not participate in Secure Communities, a Federal program which helps to flag for deportation illegal immigrants arrested by local law enforcement agencies.
