Police say father wanted to avoid paying child support
PORTO ALEGRE, Rio Grande do Sul - Police in Gaurama, 244 miles from the state capital, arrested 47 year old Genois Bortolosso in the death of his 18 year old daughter Ketlin Bortolosso. According to police, the man confessed to paying a hit-man R$500 reals ($310 USD) to kill her.
According to the prosecutor, Gerson Braga, the father wanted to get back at his ex-wife, Ketlin's mother, and to get out of paying child support to the young woman who was entitled since she was a full-time student. The killer was also arrested.
The father had been arrested before for non-payment of alimony to his ex-wife.
According to the prosecutor Braga, the father went to his daughter's home and said he would teach her to drive. He drove her to the place where the hit-man was waiting. He then faked mechanical problems with the car and pulled to the side of the road.
When Ketlin got out of the car to see what had happened, she was shot. The young woman took six bullets to the head and died at the scene. The father and the hit-man fled in the car.
Local residents reported to police that they saw a car leaving the area at high speed. When they went to investigate, they found the young woman's body and called police. Police followed the car's tire tracks and located the father who, under interrogation, confessed to having ordered the killing of his daughter.
The police are also investigating whether the father might benefit from a life-insurance policy on the daughter.
