| SAO PAULO – Actor Thiago Klimeck, 27, who hanged himself accidently during a staging of the Passion of Christ on Good Friday, remains hospitalized. The actor is being cared for by doctors in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of Santa Casa de Itapeva Hospital, 290 km (180 mi) from the city of Sao Paulo.

According to a medical report issued on Wednesday morning, Thiago is in grave condition and breathing with the help of machines. He has been on life support since Saturday morning, after having severe and prolonged cerebral hypoxia – lack of oxygen to the brain.
According to Doctor Mazen Haidar, they had to put him in an induced coma due to constant seizures. Haidar also confirmed that the trauma was caused by asphyxia caused by hanging.
According to the victim’s sister, Fabiana Klimeck Bueno, 31, her brother rehearsed for six months to interpret the character of Judas in the Passion of Christ. “On the day of the performance, he rehearsed in the presence of the Fire Department, who inspected the equipment, a vest and harness used under the robe,” she told Folha de Sao Paulo.
The Fire Department, however, denied to Folha having participated in the staging or testing.
According to the Civil Guard of Itarare, 345 km (214 mi) outside the City of Sao Paulo, preliminary investigations indicate that Thiago was strangled by a shoelace that was under his robe. When he jumped off a stone to simulate the hanging of Judas, the vest he wore rose and cured up wrapping the shoelaces around his neck and strangling him.
Thiago is single and lives with his family in Itarare. He participated in the staging of the Passion of Christ in Colonel Jordan Square – also known as Church Square – in the center of town, where the accident happened. He was hanged for four minutes without stirring before anybody realized that he was unconscious.
Unresponsive, the actor was taken by the Civil Guard to the Santa Casa de Itarare Hospital, and from there, he was transferred to the Santa Casa de Itapeva in critical condition.
The accident is being investigated the the Civil Police of Itarare to determine if there was equipment failure.
UPDATE 3/22/2012: On Sunday afternoon (22) the actor James Klimeck, 27, died. He suffered accidental hanging two weeks ago. According to G1, this information was confirmed by the Santa Casa de Itapeva (SP), where he was admitted in deep coma.
