| MANAUS, Brazil – A 34-year-old man was arrested early Sunday morning carrying 45 kilos of cocaine in a suitcase at the airport in Manaus. According to the Federal Police (PF) at the Eduardo Gomes International Airport, the man was trafficking the cocaine from the Amazonas capital to Belem, the capital of Para state.
The PF said that the alleged drug trafficker was suspected due to the weight of the suitcase. Also according to police, the drugs were to be distributed in Belem on Brazil’s north-eastern coast.
The suspect will answer to charges of drug trafficking and, if convicted, faces a sentence of 5 to 15 years imprisonment. So far in 2012, the Federal Police have seized nearly a metric ton of drugs in Manaus.
