| SYDNEY, Australia – Renata and I were in Sydney for a poker tournament a few weeks ago. I went down to the felt on the second day & we were not to return to Brazil for 3 more days. The hotel recommended renting a car and taking the Grand Pacific Drive, so that is what we did.

| SAO PAULO – A 15-year-old boy from Ribeirao Preto, in the interior of the state, says he was shot in the head two months ago and didn’t even know it.

40 Tons of Canadian Trash Interdicted

| PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil - Customs agents on Friday seized 40 tons of household trash that was shipped from Canada to the southern Brazilian port of Itajai. The waste was packed into two shipping containers.

Dutchman Busted with 4 kg Cocaine

| RECIFE, Brazil – A Dutchman was arrested at the international airport in Recife, Pernambuco, while trying to board a flight to Lisbon with cocaine. Federal Police (PF) found more than 4 kg (8.8 lbs) of pure cocaine hidden in the man’s luggage. The suspect carried a Dutch passport with the name Raimond Van Meeteren.

Couple Lands 40 Kilo Chinese Carp

| PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil – Last week, a couple of fish farmers in southern Brazil pulled a Chinese carp weighing 40 kilos out of one of their ponds. Jair Balest, 56, and his wife, Yvonne, who farm fish in Dona Francisca, in the central region of Rio Grande do Sul state, became famous in the region after the record catch.

| BRASILIA – Brazil's executive branch said on Wednesday that they will raise the issue of Youssef Nadarkhani with Iran. Chief of Staff to the president of the republic, Gleisi Hoffman announced that Brazil will contact Iran to inquire as to the reasons that led to evangelical preacher Youssef Nadarkhani being imprisoned.

Highway Police Seize 150 Kilos Cocaine

| PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil – Federal Highway Police in southern Brazil seized 150 kg (330 lbs) of cocaine hidden in the false bed of a truck on Tuesday. The seizure occurred at km 51 on the BR-386 in Serberi, in northern Rio Grande do Sul state at about 11:20 am this morning.

2012 Carnaval in Rio Broke All Records

| RIO DE JANEIRO – The 2012 Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro attracted a record number of tourists to the city. According to Riotur, 1.114 million visitors passed through the city between February 13th and the 26th, which includes the bulk of the celebrations. Of the total, 32% were foreigners.

Teen Receives iPhone 4 'Made in Brazil'

| RIO DE JANEIRO – A Brazilian teenager reportedly received an iPhone 4 manufactured in Brazil. The teen, who bought the device earlier this month on Apple's Brazilian website, received the cell phone about 10 days ago. The box indicates (in Portuguese) that the phone is 'Made in Brazil' and has the information of the new Foxconn factory in Jundai, Sao Paulo state.
