Madonna to Play Porto Alegre in 2012

| PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil – American pop star Madonna will perform at Olympic Stadium in Porto Alegre, the capital of Rio Grande do Sul state. Folha de Sao Paulo confirmed by telephone with Paulo Cesar Verardi, club owner at the site, that the controversial performer will appear on December 9th.

Giant Anaconda Attacks City Worker

| SAO LUIS, Brazil – A city worker in north-east Brazil was attacked on Friday by a 5 meter (16.5 foot) anaconda snake while cleaning a creak in the city of Imperatriz, Maranhão state. “I was pulled by the snake. Luckily, my colleagues were nearby and pulled me out with the snake and everything,” the worker told a reporter from TV Mirante.

Spaniard Arrested with Cocaine in RS

| PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil – Federal Police (PF) in southern Brazil arrested a 55-year-old Spanish man trying to board a flight bound for Lisbon. According to the PF, agents at Salgado Filho International Airport in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul state, found 2.8 kg (6.17 lbs) of pure cocaine hidden in the man’s baggage.

'Dog' Marley has a nose for Marijuana

| FLORIANOPOLIS, Brazil – Police in southern Brazil have a drug-sniffing dog they’ve named ‘Dog’ Marley, after musician Bob Marley, because of his uniquely keen ability to sniff out even small amount of marijuana. On Tuesday, during an operation in Favela Siri (not named after the iPhone helper), he sniffed out 30 bundles of pot hidden under the sand dunes that surround the site.

Cocaine Falls from the Sky in Mato Grosso

| CUIABA, Brazil – Police in Central-West Brazil seized 60 kg (132 lbs) of pure cocaine allegedly dropped from a small plane on Wednesday, in the rural town of Sapezal, 473 km (294 mi) from the Mato Grosso state capital, Cuiaba. In addition to the drugs, police also seized firearms, ammunition and CB radios.

Sixty kilos of pure cocaine was dropped from the sky over rural farmland in Central-West Brazil near the capital of Mato Grosso.

Billionaire’s Son Kills Cyclist in Rio

| RIO DE JANEIRO - Thor de Oliveira Fuhrken Batista, son of Brazilian billionaire Eike Batista, allegedly hit and killed a cyclist in Rio de Janeiro Saturday night. The businessman tweeted Sunday afternoon: “Unfortunately there was a fatal accident. However, Thor was not reckless.”

Brazilian Pilgrims Kidnapped in Egypt

| SAINT CATHERINE, Egypt – Two young Brazilian girls on a bus full of pilgrims were kidnapped by Bedouins in the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt, according to the Foreign Ministry in Brasilia. The bus was traveling near Mount Sinai when the girls were taken.
